KAUAI - HAWAII - MARKS VACATIONS

By: Barefoot Tours
Presented by: Marks Vacations

The island of Kauai is the oldest of the major islands in the Hawaiian chain.
Kauai's volcano has been extinct for over 5 million years.

It is also the northern most island and generally the first island to receive "weather" generated from the huge body of water north and west of Hawaii. Rain clouds are attracted by land mass and the first spot many of the north Pacific weather patterns are drawn to is Kauai and in fact so much rain is attracted to the island that it's summit of Mount Wai'ale'ale is the wettest spot on the planet with an average yearly rainfall of 420". The extreme rainfall, pounding surf and constant trade wind breezes have contoured the island into a series of sculpted peeks with razor edge ridges which are laden with dripping green jungles and immense waterfalls. On the eastern portion of Kauai can be found an alluvial plain of relatively flat topography that is detailed with gently flowing serpentine shaped navigable rivers suitable for kayaking and other river going vessels.

10 REASONS TO USE A TRAVEL AGENT... Presented By MARKS VACATIONS

- MARKS VACATION TIPS -

So Your Debating Whether To Use A Personal Travel Agent To Book Your Vacation Travel Or Should You Go It Alone By Using The Internet.
1. - OK! You Google "Mexico Vacations," and come up with 17.8 million responses. Need a little help editing those choices?
2. - Remember when you used that obscure website to book your Hotel, and when you got there you spent your beach vacation overlooking a parking lot?
3. - How many hours were you on hold with the Airline when your flight was canceled because of a snowstorm?
4. - Hey! Did you really mean to spend your Honeymoon at that resort whose one tiny pool was filled all day with 16 screaming children?
5. - And Who knew that when you booked that "Beach Front Villa" in Tuscany, it would be a small room with a kitchenette and no air conditioning? Gosh, it looked much better on your computer screen.
6. - And Why No One Explained to you that in July, it's winter time in Rio, and so you showed up there with nothing but five Hawaiian shirts and three pairs of swimming trunks.
7. - What about the time you really needed a restful vacation, and you ended up in New Orleans during Mardi Gras and someone threw up on your shoes?
8. - And, I guess that hotel must have used a telephoto lens when they took a picture of those giant guest rooms that you saw on their website page.
9. - I guess contacting the Internet Travel Site to resolve the fact that their Internet site has billed your credit card two times instead of once and the only route to take at this point.
10. - It was definitely odd that there were no cab drivers at the airport at 4 o'clock in the morning when you finally landed in Costa Rica, but booking a transfer to your very remote hotel would have been a good thing to remember when you purchased your airline ticket and hotel online.

Marks Vacations: Do Fish Feel Pain

Do Fish Feel Pain? Drama about Trout Trauma...

The controversy about whether fish feel pain.

I almost hate to bring this up, but I think I need to take a stand on this issue. Some people are concerned that catching fish hurts the fish. I've read that animal rights activists believe that fish feel pain. Personally, this has never been a concern for me (since I tend to reserve my compassion for warm-blooded animals and people!). So, my trout fishing secret on this subject is - until we know more, I will keep fishing!

My way of thinking is that the nervous systems of cold-blooded creatures are not that highly-developed. The unofficial theory is that invertebrates (they have no spine) and cold-blooded vertebrates, such as fish, don't really have enough brain power to have complex sensations. Really, you could go nuts wondering when using live bait that the worm or bait feels pain, too! I can see it now - t-shirts with this on them: "Save the bait, use an artificial lure!"

There are extensive debates for and against this idea about whether or not fish can feel pain. When you look this subject up on the Internet, the term that is associated with my simplistic theory is called neuroanatomy. Then, on the side of the "fish can feel pain" camp, is the concept that the evolutionary process must have some kind of pain-avoidance built in for species to survive. But this argument is mostly supported using comparisons to the human brain. To me, the human brain just can't be compared to fish brains (well, in most cases, anyway).

Marks Vacations Family Resort Tip!

Welcome Travel Friends To Marks Vacations!

This is my new blog! Marks Vacations Blog! Here's a great family getaway I wanted to share with you!

Sunriver Resort is a vacation idea perfect for families.

The resort is located on 3,300 acres of Oregon high-desert country along the Deschutes River.

It’s surrounded by meadows and the ponderosa pine forest of the Cascade Mountains.

Sunriver Resort was built to harmonize with the natural beauty around it.

Any time of the year the family can come here for rest and recreation.

March through October is the time for vacationers to enjoy warm weather activities like swimming, tennis and cycling.

The river, practically outside the lodge front door, provides a place for fishing, canoeing and white-river rafting.

Golfers will love the three 18-hole courses. During the winter months, you can enjoy great downhill and cross-country skiing.

The Mt. Bachelor ski area is only 18 miles away in the Cascade Mountains.

The resort has organized activities for all the kids. There’s a playground with a fun log stockade and fort for them to play on.

Nearby is the Oregon High Desert Museum, Lava River Cave Tours and the lava cast trees at the Lava Cast Forest.
